The Jobs Process – More Trick Than Treat

Let’s be honest — the job process can be downright terrifying.

I’ve been in this game for a long time, and even now, I see the same fear play out every single day. For job seekers, it’s not just about finding a new role — it’s about putting yourself out there, opening up your life, and hoping someone on the other end sees your value. That’s a scary place to be. Companies and hiring officials toy with you at every turn, showing you the red balloon when in fact they're just luring you in for the kill and more disappointment.

It starts the moment you hit “apply.” You’ve spent hours polishing your résumé, tweaking your LinkedIn profile, and crafting a cover letter that doesn’t sound like a robot wrote it. Then… silence. Days, sometimes weeks go by, and your inbox stays empty. You start questioning everything — your experience, your worth, even your email settings.

And interviews? Don’t even get me started. You walk into a Zoom meeting or conference room knowing that your entire career might be judged off the next 30 minutes. You try to be confident but not cocky, prepared but not scripted, real but professional. It’s a tightrope walk that no one really teaches you how to do.

But here’s the thing — employers are scared too.

Hiring managers don’t always know what they’re looking for until they see it. They’re under pressure to make the right hire, fast. They’re sorting through stacks of résumés that all start to look the same. They’re worried about turnover, culture fit, and budgets. Everyone’s afraid to make the wrong move.

So yes, the job process can be scary. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.

When both sides lead with transparency and authenticity — when job seekers show who they really are, and companies communicate clearly and respectfully — the fear starts to fade. The process becomes less of a haunted house and more of a guided tour.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about ghosts or monsters. It’s about people — real people — trying to make something work. And that’s not scary at all. That’s human.
