I'm Sorry, We Just Think You'll Be Bored - AKA: Over-Qualified

Let’s talk about the word nobody wants to hear in their job search:
“Over-qualified.” 🤐
Lately, that’s been the label stamped on me again and again.
👉 Roles I can do with my eyes closed? “Over-qualified.”
👉 Roles I could elevate and grow? “Over-qualified.”
👉 Roles I’m genuinely excited about? You guessed it—“over-qualified.”
Here’s the part people don’t talk about: 👇
Being called “over-qualified” feels a lot like being punished for the very experience you worked years to earn. It’s a strange place to be—too skilled for the job, but still looking for the right door to open. And yes, it wears you down. I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been frustrating, discouraging, or even confusing.
But here’s what I know for sure:
✅ My experience isn’t a liability.
✅ My background isn’t a risk.
✅ My skill set isn’t “too much.”
It’s value. It’s leverage. It’s depth a resume can’t fully explain.
So if you’re in that same boat—being told you’re “over-qualified”—I see you. You’re not the problem. You’re not past your prime. You’re not asking for too much. You’re simply looking for the right place that recognizes what you bring, instead of fearing it.
And when that opportunity shows up?
💥 They won’t see “over-qualified.”
💥 They’ll see exactly what they needed all along.
